The department emphasizes research and writing and encourages students to present their findings at professional meetings. This is an important factor in helping our graduates find employment. Visits to high school classrooms early in your career will help you decide if teaching is the right choice. Social Studies majors also earn a second major in History, as well as the equivalent of a minor in professional education. Students may do their student teaching in a variety of settings that range from small towns to large urban schools, and can include international opportunities. Visit the department's web site.
