Office of Academic Affairs
The Office of Academic Affairs, in accordance with the mission of the University, strives to provide the leadership, support services and distribution of resources necessary to achieve maximum student learning.
The Office of Academic Affairs is responsible for supporting the work of the faculty, whose teaching, advising, and scholarship are the foundation of the academic programs. As the chief academic officer, the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs oversees: the University curriculum and new curricular initiatives; faculty hiring and promotion; and support for faculty research and teaching. The five college deans and the director of the University's general education program directly assist the Provost in these endeavors. The Provost is a core participant in the University's budget development and strategic planning.
Additionally, this Office oversees the administration of the athletic varsity programs, both the Heterick Library and Taggart Law Library, the Center for Teacher Education, the Communication Skills Center, the Freed Center for the Arts, and the Registrar's Office. Supporting assessment and data queries for the academic areas is the Office of Institutional Research, and the campus computing infrastructure is maintained and serviced by the Office of Information Technology, both of which report to the Provost. Finally, this office is focused on building global awareness and exchange on the ONU's campus, with the goal of ultimately creating graduates who are more globally informed citizens. Part of this includes assisting international faculty and students with visa issues, as well as coordinating the study abroad experiences of our domestic students.
