Arts & Culture

The Performing Arts

Ohio Northern offers a rich and vibrant arts culture to participants and audiences alike. The campus has nearly 100 annual events and performances, including lectures, headliners, theatre, dance, and music events. Each season brings 30-40 professional theatre and dance guest artists to campus and there is also a unique International Play Festival. Events take place at the Freed Center for the Performing Arts, a modern fully equipped theatre complex.

Music

From opera to steel drums, ONU’s distinctive music program offers up a season of performances by eleven instrumental and six vocal ensembles, as well as student and faculty recitals performed in Presser recital hall.

Fine Arts

The University fine arts exhibition venues include two galleries on campus. The Elzay Gallery of Art and the Stambaugh Studio Theatre Gallery showcase the work of invited artists and designers as well as the work of students, faculty and alumni.

Lecture Series

Each college also offers a varied array of professional speakers indigenous to their field of study. Examples of recent speakers are: Spotts Lecturer Bob Peterson, BSME ’83, Pixar director and animator for the academy award-winning movie, UP! and renowned stem cell researcher and Keiser Lecturer Dr. Renee Reijo-Pera, professor of obstetrics and gynecology and Director of the Center for Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research and Education at Stanford University. Other university lecture series include the Kritzler and Sebok.

For the prospective student:

Ohio Northern is named as one of the nation’s top 200 programs in Creative Colleges: A Guide for Student Actors, Artists, Dancers, Musicians and Writers.

ONU turns out well-rounded students who can major in the arts or participate in them as they major in other academic areas.
