At a glance: Electrical Engineering

"At ONU, there’s a lot of one-on-one help when you need it. Help is very easy to find, and faculty members are very welcoming. It’s all so very personal."

Nick Saunders
West Mifflin, Pa.

Electrical engineering is one of three programs offered by the Electrical & Computer Engineering and Computer Science (ECCS) department. Electrical engineers are involved with a wide range of related technologies in areas such as communications, control systems, power generation and distribution, and signal processing. Visit the department's web site.

Distinctive features

The program provides a broad-based curriculum that stresses fundamentals and the development of a professional work ethic. Many of our courses offer accessible, hands-on, practical laboratory experiences using relevant equipment and disciplined practices.

Students are given opportunities to develop and practice oral and written communication skills. Our program fosters an environment that produces graduates who are creative problem solvers and are sought after by employers. A five-year optional co-op program is available.

The college has in place an Engineer-in-Residence program in which a practicing professional engineer operates an office in the Robert W. Biggs Engineering Building. Student interns work on real-world projects under this engineer's direction.

Facilities

The ECCS department is housed on the second floor of the Robert W. Biggs Engineering and Science Annex Buildings. Students and faculty have access to a variety of modern computer and engineering laboratory facilities. Major features of the facilities related to electrical engineering include:

  • Circuits/electronics laboratory
  • Communications laboratory
  • Control systems laboratory
  • Digital electronics and microprocessors laboratory
  • Digital signal processing laboratory
  • Power systems laboratory
