At a glance: Engineering
The College of Engineering at Ohio Northern University offers engineering and computer science students the unique combination of a scientific and technically-based major within the context of a liberal arts education. Our philosophy is simple. We aspire to provide a teaching/learning environment in which we maximize opportunities for student success. We admit entering high school students with solid mathematics and science skills and produce outstanding graduate engineers who are able to enter the workforce and “hit the ground running.” Visit the college's web site.

Distinctive features
- It is through our intensive “hands–on” programs which provide rigorous coursework and “real world” project work that ONU engineering and computer science graduates have earned a well-deserved reputation as outstanding graduates. The project work occurs through student participation in such activities as class and laboratory projects, industry sponsored senior design projects, professional society competitions, co-op and internship opportunities and undergraduate research.
- Our supportive environment provides students with access to their professors, advising for course selection, tutoring sessions and encourages students to form study groups with their peers.
- Our students have a wonderful sense of involvement in the life of the University community and have garnered state, regional and national recognition for their accomplishments.
- Student-centered and student-focused environment
- Commitment to the blending of the college’s programs with liberal arts and humanities

Program outcomes
Approximately 20% of graduates go immediately on to graduate and professional schools. Successful careers with companies such as American Electric Power, General Dynamics L and Systems, Honda EGA, Marathon Petroleum Company, MERI Paper, Mitsubishi Electric Power, Nestle R&D, Rolls-Royce Energy Systems, US Army Corps of Engineers
Professional placement
Cooperative Education Program: Students who have completed their second year of engineering or computer science with an accumulative grade point average of at least 2.5/4.0 are eligible to participate in the co-op program. This five-year optional program is designed to include up to five semesters of work experience related to a student’s major during the student’s third and fourth years of college. A full-time administrative faculty member assists students with co-op job placement.
