Electrical Engineering

Laboratories are associated with most of our electrical courses, providing hands-on practical experiences that are essential to a successful career in the field.

Each program in the ECCS department shares the same goals of producing high quality graduates through a broad-based curriculum that stresses fundamentals and the development of a professional work ethic. Many of our courses offer accessible, hands-on, practical laboratory experiences using relevant equipment and disciplined practices.

Electrical Engineers are trained problem solvers who understand both the informational and power aspects of electricity.  Our program provides students with a broad-based, rigorous curriculum providing a solid grounding in engineering fundamentals, including both analog and digital systems, as well as exposure to advanced areas such as communications, controls, power electronics, and signals.

An Advanced Energy Concentration is also available. The concentration requires both specific and elective energy relevant courses as displayed in the document below called “Electrical Engineering Advanced Energy Concentration Curriculum Guide”.

Program Educational Objectives

Graduates of the Electrical Engineering Program will:

  1. Be successful in their chosen career
  2. Engage in career-long learning
  3. Be effective communicators with those inside and outside of electrical engineering.
  4. Practice the professional and ethical responsibilities of electrical engineers.
  5. Be equipped to accept challenging assignments and responsibilities.

Student Outcomes

By the time of graduation, students majoring in Electrical Engineering at Ohio Northern University will have:

  1. An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering
  2. An ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data
  3. An ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability
  4. An ability to function on multidisciplinary teams
  5. An ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems
  6. An understanding of professional and ethical responsibility
  7. An ability to communicate effectively
  8. The broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context
  9. A recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning
  10. A knowledge of contemporary issues
  11. An ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice.
