Advertising Design Major
Advertising is an important business activity that requires knowledge in planning, research and creativity.
The program responds to a more sophisticated and demanding field in design and teaches students to develop advertising that acts as a catalyst in the world of mass communication.
Foundation design courses in visual communication, design theory, research, history and typography, and the techniques of production comprise the core design curriculum. Intermediate classes focus on concept and development: text and image integration, systematic design and the creation of narratives. Advanced classes enable students to work with complex advertising projects with multiple elements and critical analysis. At this level, classes are structured to integrate theories, strategies and concepts learned from previous courses into an advanced, professional setting. Courses also aid a students' preparation of portfolios and require the execution of professional advertising assignments. Many classes are taught in the studio with direct access to the computer lab, printers and digital cameras.
Advertising design students participate in a broad range of courses taught through the BFA or BA program, such as drawing, illustration, painting and printmaking. Students also may take courses in interactive and web design.
The advertising design major integrates art and design courses, marketing classes from the College of Business Administration and courses from the liberal arts (general education) program. Depending on specific career interests, students also may take elective courses in business, communication arts and technological studies. With a well-planned and integrated curriculum, our graduates enter the advertising design field with competence.

I feel I have grown more as a designer during this school year than in all my previous experiences combined. I am more passionate about my craft than ever before. I have fun, and my personality still has had plenty of room to shine through my work.
