Entrepreneurship Courses
The James F. Dicke College of Business Administration offers two courses to support learning about innovation and entrepreneurship at Ohio Northern University and how and why to start a business:
- New Venture Creation (ABUS 4441; ABUS 2221 required)helps students learn how to take an idea they have developed into a launch stage or, alternately, take a business they have already created into the next funding or expansion stage. Students prepare business plans for their ideas and test these ideas by entering business plan competitions at ONU or in Midwest or national venues. Off-campus competitions and mentoring by faculty and ONU alumni are a part of the course experience.
- Principles of Entrepreneurship (ABUS 2221; no prerequisites) introduces students to the entrepreneurial mindset and the challenges of developing a new product, business or process. Students create or select ideas to turn into persuasive speeches or business “elevator pitches.” They learn how to turn their great ideas into business opportunities. Student competitions, both on and off campus, are a planned part of the course experience, as are meetings with successful entrepreneurs.
