Dr. Juliet Hurtig - Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs

Dr. Hurtig is a native of the Pittsburgh, PA area. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Ohio Northern University in 1991. She then attended graduate school at The Ohio State University, earning her master’s and doctorate degrees in electrical engineering (control systems). Her industrial background focused on automotive anti-lock braking systems.
Her academic career began in 2000 when she joined ONU’s College of Engineering as assistant professor of electrical engineering. In 2003 she was named assistant dean for admissions and advising, followed by being promoted to associate professor of electrical engineering in 2004. Her research interests include educational pedagogy and nonlinear system identification. Dedicated to her students, she was awarded the Professor Henry Horldt Outstanding Teacher Award for 2001-2002 and 2007-2008.
She was appointed interim assistant vice president of academic affairs in August 2009, then promoted to associate vice president of academic affairs in August 2011. Her areas of responsibility include academic oversight of semester transition, the university catalog, academic scheduling, and summer sessions. She also oversees assessment activities in the academic areas and serves as chair of the University General Education Committee. International study abroad programs and exchange student and scholar visa concerns are also handled by Dr. Hurtig.
