Economist to Lecture on ‘The Great Recession’

Dr. Tim Fuerst, senior advisor to the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, will discuss “The Great Recession” in Ohio Northern University’s McIntosh Ballroom on Tuesday, March 23 at 7 p.m.The event is free and open to the public. Ohio Northern’s James F. Dicke College of Business Administration and the Cultural and Special Events Committee are sponsoring the lecture.In addition to his position at BGSU, Fuerst has been named a senior economic advisor to the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. He is among six economists serving as senior economic advisors in the Fourth Federal Reserve District, which includes Ohio, parts of Kentucky, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Idea Pitch Competition Winners Named

Jen Tabar, a junior biology major form Hinckley, Ohio, took the $250 top prize at Ohio Northern University’s James F. Dicke College of Business Administration entrepreneurial idea pitch competition on Feb. 3.  Renee LeGendre, a junior communication arts major from Toledo, Ohio, received the second prize award of $150. In the end, more than $1,000 in cash prizes were awarded to ONU students as well as a four $2,000 renewable scholarships for incoming freshmen. ONU Student Research Colloquium dates changed

The ONU Student Research Colloquium has been moved to May 1st.  The deadline for submissions is March 31st. Several important changes have been made to this year's ONU Student Research Colloquium.  1.            Due to several conflicts with the Saturday, April 10th date, we have moved the date of the colloquium to Saturday, May 1st.  While weekends are less desirable for faculty, students indicated that their weekday schedules are so full that a weekend date is preferable. 2.            We have pushed back the submission deadline from Friday, March 12th to Wednesday, March 31st.  3.            The Undergraduate Research Colloquium has been renamed the Student Research Colloquium at the request of the Pharmacy representative, who argued... continue reading

Chris Corrado finalist in SEA (Self-Employment in the Arts) Regional Business Plan Competition

Chris Corrado was selected as one of eight finalists to compete in the SEA (Self-Employment in the Arts) Regional Business Plan Competition on February 19-20th at North Central College in Chicago www.seaconference.com. Milliken University is another key sponsor of this event. Speakers to Discuss Microfinance Opportunities and Global Poverty

The Ohio Northern University James F. Dicke College of Business Administration will host representatives of Opportunity International, Jason Duff, Alex Kerr and A.J. Renold, who will speak in the Dicke Forum on Thursday, Feb. 4, at 7 p.m. Their presentation, titled “Microfinance: Giving the Poor a Working Chance,” will discuss the successful financial aid to poverty stricken areas of the world in the form of microfinance. The provision of financial services in the form of loans, insurance, and training to people living in poverty, microfinance has been widely recognized as a sustainable solution for alleviating global poverty for more than 30 years. ONU to Host Idea Pitch Competitions

Ohio Northern University’s James F. Dicke College of Business Administration will host entrepreneurial idea pitch competitions for area high school and college students on Wednesday, Feb. 3, from 5-9 p.m. in James F. Dicke Hall. Approximately 10 high school students from several area high schools will compete for a number of $2,000-a-year renewable scholarships to attend Ohio Northern University. Thirty college students will compete for $1,000 in cash prizes awarded through the generosity of the Kern Family Foundation. The idea pitch competitions require applicants to prepare two-minute presentations and answer questions from judges about their ideas. Financial Information Student Group Receives National Recognition The Ohio Northern University James F. Dicke College of Business Administration Mu Delta chapter of Beta Alpha Psi was recognized as a Distinguished Chapter for the 2008-09 year.Under the leadership of Dexter Woods, Ohio Northern professor of business administration, the Beta Alpha Psi Board of Directors honored the ONU chapter for far exceeding the minimum requirements of Beta Alpha Psi and excelling in the areas of academics, professionalism and leadership.Woods said he was especially pleased because ONU was only installed as a new chapter in October and has already received national recognition."The recognition is based on the average number of hours each chapter member... continue reading

IMASC members Adam Bollinger, Garrett Dauch, Casey Davis, and Kailee McGuire entering video to national competition.

IMASC members Adam Bollinger, Garrett Dauch, Casey Davis, and Kailee McGuire will be submitting a video presentation as ONU's entry into the IMA National Student Case Competition.  The advisor for the group is Dr. Jill Christopher.    This year's case required the analysis of an Irish pub and providing recommendations for benchmarking and improving the pub's operating performance.  The teams with the top four videos in the nation will compete for the national title at the IMA national conference in June, 2010.  Finalists are announced in May. continue reading
