James F. Dicke College of Business Administration Adopts Student Honor Code

Ohio Northern University's James F. Dicke of College Business Administration has adopted a student honor code. A committee of two business professors and four students formulated the code over the course of the summer, and the business faculty formally approved the ethics code in September. Ohio Supreme Court Justice Robert Cupp, BA '73, AA '71, JD '76, presided over a swearing-in ceremony in which all freshmen in the College of Business Administration committed to the honor code. The James F. Dicke College of Business Administration Receives Grants

Ohio Northern University's James F. Dicke College of Business Administration has been awarded two grants totaling $13,000 from Marathon Oil Company to support students majoring in accounting. "We truly appreciate the generosity of Marathon Oil Company for providing the cash gift to support accounting scholarships. Many of our students would not be able to enter our college's accounting program without the generous scholarship support like that provided to us by Marathon," said Dr. James Fenton, dean of The James F. Jason Duff Receives ONU’s 2008 William L. Robinson Young Alumni Award

Jason Duff, BSBA '05, has been named the recipient of the 2008 William L. Robinson Young Alumni Award. The award is given each year to an individual who is committed to Ohio Northern University, his/her profession and the community. The award is named in honor of Bill Robinson, BSEd '61, Hon. D. '05, H of F '05. Robinson has served ONU for more than 50 years in numerous capacities and has been a positive influence on countless students and alumni. Students to Compete in CEO Elevator Pitch Contest

Fifteen Ohio Northern University students are scheduled to compete in the CEO Elevator Pitch Competition at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 14, in room 230 of The Dicke College of Business Administration. The contest, sponsored by the Kern Family Foundation, requires students to present a 90-second "elevator pitch" that identifies a customer's problem or need and offers a solution. Contestants will be judged on how well he or she articulates the problem; how unique and viable the solution is; how effectively and passionately the contestant presents the problem and solution; and how skillfully the presentation is made. SIFE Receives Grant from AIG Program

Ohio Northern University's Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) have received a two-year, $1,500 grant from the AIG Credit Counseling challenge grant program. Dr. Susan Schertzer, associate professor of marketing, and Dr. Christine North, assistant professor of communication arts, are advisors for ONU SIFE and submitted the grant proposal. "We are thrilled to receive this grant because it will allow the ONU SIFE team to create an even more significant impact on the campus community. The ideas and education provided by the SIFE team will help our students be more financially savvy and skilled, and this grant will allow us to create more in-depth programming and allow for greater outreach," said North. ONU graduate wins Cuban essay contest

Jared R. Hardesty, a 2008 graduate of Ohio Northern University from Lima, Ohio, won the fourth annual Collegiate Essay Contest sponsored by the ONU Center for Cuban Business Studies. His entry, "History on the Forbidden Isle: Historiography and Pop Culture in Castro's Cuba," was selected as the best paper submitted by a college student. Hardesty's paper was based on his research and personal experiences while studying at the University of Havana in ONU's environmental management program. Hardesty was awarded a $500 prize. ONU Student Receives Accounting Scholarship

Megan Monaco, a senior in The James F. Dicke College of Business Administration, has been awarded a $1000 Beta Gamma Sigma scholarship. An Accounting major from North Canton, Ohio, Monaco was selected among finalists for this award. Beta Gamma Sigma is the premier honor society serving business programs accredited by AACSB International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. AMA Students Receive Award, Present Workshop at National Conference

The Ohio Northern University chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) attended the American Marketing Association's National Conference April 3-5 in New Orleans. The conference was attended by 1,300 marketing students representing 126 universities from across the country. The ONU members participated in a trade show event where they competed against 38 other universities in creating and operating a mock trade exhibit for an evening. The exhibit was visited by 1,200 conference attendees and over 70 faculty advisors. The ONU AMA received a national award for its excellence in the area of club communications. Ohio Supreme Court Justice Stratton to Speak at Undergraduate Commencement

Ohio Northern University will celebrate its 2008 Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony on Sunday, May 18, 2008 at 2 p.m. in the Sports Center. About 600 students will be awarded degrees. Ohio Supreme Court Justice Evelyn L. Stratton will be addressing the graduating students as the guest speaker. Justice Stratton has served on the Ohio Supreme Court since 1996. Justice Stratton's legal career began in the courtrooms of central Ohio as a trial lawyer. In 1989, as the first woman judge to be elected to the Franklin County Common Pleas Court, she presided over major cases ranging from capital murder trials to major civil actions. President’s Leadership Dessert Honors ONU Students

Eight Ohio Northern University students, a male and female from each class, were honored with awards at the annual President's Leadership Dessert, held April 30. Special guest speaker for the event was Ohio State University Head Football Coach Jim Tressel. Receiving the DeBow Freed Awards for Outstanding Leadership as freshmen were Bethany Schreck, an art major from Bethel Park, Pa., and Ryan Lowry, a business administration major from Bluffton, Ohio.
