OMEA/OCMEA at Ohio Northern
Ohio Northern University’s music education faculty members are all active members of the National Association for Music Education and The Ohio Music Education Association, our state division of NAfME. Both full- and part-time faculty members are adjudicators for solo, ensemble and large group adjudicated events for OMEA in addition to being committee members at the state level.
Not only have ONU ensembles performed at state Music Education Association conferences, but faculty have presented and presided over clinic sessions as well. Dr. Denise D’Arca presented a clinic session and was a panelist for two discussion sessions at the NAfMe conference in summer 2012.
ONU’s Ohio Collegiate Music Education Association chapter of OMEA is a strong and active group of future music educators of all types. Guest speakers and other programming enhance meetings, and chapter members participate in service projects that provide them with professional experience including assisting at local adjudicated events, working as stage hands for Presser Hall music events, teaching free private lessons to students from the Lima, Ohio, area schools and assisting in audition days and recruitment events for the music department. The OCMEA members serve as leaders in many of the ONU ensembles and are a supportive network for one another.
The OCMEA chapter has been recognized with awards for chapter growth and members have won state awards. Two ONU OCMEA members have won the OMEA Student Teaching Award in the past four years.
