Using PowerPoint on the Macintosh Computer in the CSC
Our computer cannot read diskettes, so the student must have his or her document saved on a zip disk or on the h:\ drive.
- Turn on computer (large round button on the central processing unit)
- Turn on projector (red button labeled “power”)
- Turn on monitor (button on lower right corner below computer screen)
Note: Monitor will stay on only if projector is turned on as well. (If screen on monitor goes blank after turning off the projector, you will need to turn on both the projector and the monitor again)
If the document is on a zip disk:
- insert disk into central processing unit
- an icon labeled “Zip Drive” will appear
- double click on this icon to bring up the saved document
- double click on the document
If the document is on the h:\ drive:
- double click on one of the h:\ drive icons (HS01, HS03, or H4_NEW)
- the student will need to type in his or her username and password (the password cannot exceed 8 characters in length)
- double click on “Home”
- scroll down and double click on the appropriate file folder (it will be labeled with the student’s username, i.e. stu0000, and you may need to check more than one h:\ drive to find the student’s files)
- double click on the document
Opening PowerPoint:
Clicking on the document should automatically open PowerPoint, but if the file will not open, do the following:
- Make sure the student has logged on to the appropriate h:\ drive
- Double click on the “Microsoft PowerPoint” icon
- Select “open existing document” on the menu
- If the document is on a zip disk, select “Desktop,” “zip drive,” and then double click on the appropriate file
- If the document is on an h:\ drive, select “Desktop,” “Home,” find the appropriate student file folder, and then double click on the document
- To start the presentation, click on the “Slide Show” icon or go to “View” and select “Slide Show”
- The presenter may then click through the slides by pressing the button located on the back of the remote control
Closing PowerPoint:
- close the document by clicking on the upper left corner of the window
- close PowerPoint by clicking on “File” and then “Quit”
- drag all “Home” icons to the trash (this will log off the student—you must do so before turning off the computer)
- to turn computer off, go to “Special” and then “Shut down”
- turn off monitor and projector
