Steel Bridge Competition
This highly popular competition is now the premier event for Civil Engineering students in the country. Students are challenged to an inter-collegiate competition to design, fabricate, and construct a steel bridge.
The competition gives civil engineering students experience in solving real-life design and construction problems commonly encountered. The students are given site conditions, spans, member sizes, weight limitations and design loads representative of a real bridge.
The Student Steel Bridge Competition is sponsored annually by the American Institute of Steel Construction. Schools compete first at the regional level during the regional conferences of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the top design and the runner-up then proceed to the national competition. The competition winner is chosen based on the following categories: aesthetics, construction speed, lightness, economy, stiffness, and efficiency.
