Biography:

John Paul Kanwit’s research and teaching interests focus on three, interrelated areas: Victorian literature and the visual arts; representations of children in British and American literature; and the development of the British novel. His first book, Victorian Art Criticism and the Woman Writer, examines the development of specialized art commentary in a period when art education became a national concern in Britain. More information about the book can be found via the following link: https://ohiostatepress.org/index.htm?books/book%20pages/Kanwit%20Victorian.html

Dr. Kanwit’s current project studies conceptions of disabled children in nineteenth-century British novels and culture. A former inner-city school teacher of students with a broad range of abilities and backgrounds, Dr. Kanwit is committed to training future teachers and to making his research relevant to current discussions about education.
