Two Ohio Northern University Raabe College of Pharmacy students were appointed to prominent national positions within the student committees of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).
Ryan Fischer, a sixth-year pharmacy student from Spencerville, Ohio, was named chair of the Pharmacy Student Forum Policy and Legislative Advisory Group for the 2011-12 academic year.

Sigma Tau Delta donates books to Turkish students
The Department of American Culture and Literature at Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey, recently accepted a shipment of books donated by students and faculty of Ohio Northern University. The book drive for the students of Hacettepe was organized and completed by Sigma Tau Delta, the English honorary, under the guidance of he STD chapter advisor Dr. Robert Scott, professor of English. The Cultural Affairs section of the U. S. Embassy in Ankara also helped with the shipment.

Students to participate in Hanyang University Summer Program
Eleven undergraduate students from Ohio Northern University have been selected to participate in the Hanyang University Summer Program for 2011.These students, who leave June 23, will spend four weeks in summer studies at Hanyang University in South Korea.
Students from each of the University’s four undergraduate colleges have received fellowships for 2011. In addition, two exchange students also have been chosen for the program.

ONU receives two grants from Ohio Space Grant Consortium
Ohio Northern University’s T.J. Smull College of Engineering received two separate grants from the Ohio Space Grant Consortium (OSGC) to fund a summer research project and to participate in a national aeronautic design competition.
Funded through NASA, OSGC seeks to promote education and industry in aeronautics in Ohio. OSGC awarded ONU’s College of Engineering with a fund for a summer student research project in computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The proposal for this project was submitted by Dr. Jed Marquart, professor of mechanical engineering.

ONU team finishes 17th at SAE Design East Competition
The Ohio Northern University student chapter of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) placed 17th at the SAE Aero Design East Competition in Marietta, Ga., from April 29-May 1. Forty-seven teams participated in the weekend competition, including national championship teams from Brazil, Canada and Poland.

Outstanding students receive Dankook Award
Ohio Northern University presented the Dankook Award to Kyle R. Stinehart, a 2011 graduate from Pemberville, Ohio, and Kyle S. Simmons, a 2011 graduate from North Lawrence, Ohio, in a ceremony prior to the undergraduate commencement on Sunday, May 22.

Team finishes fifth at international Baja SAE competition
Ohio Northern University’s Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Baja team finished fifth overall at the Baja SAE Birmingham competition held April 14-17. Fifty-eight teams from several countries, including the United States, Canada, South Korea and Mexico, traveled to Birmingham, Ala., for the event.

Pharmacy alumna and student receive OSHP awards
An Ohio Northern University pharmacy alumna and an ONU pharmacy student received awards during the 133rd annual Ohio Pharmacist Association (OPA) Conference held April 8-10 in Columbus, Ohio.
Bethany Murphy, a pharmacy practice resident from Fayetteville, Tenn., received the Ohio Society of Health-System Pharmacists (OSHP) Resident of the Year Award. Ashley Overy, a fifth-year pharmacy student from Grafton, Ohio, was awarded the Scholarship for Non-Graduating PharmD Students.
