Unite For Awareness Week

Ohio Northern University will host the seventh annual “Unite for Awareness Week,” a student-driven initiative to bring attention to issues of discrimination, beginning on Wednesday, April 27. The theme for this year’s awareness week is “Don’t H8!”

U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan to speak at Legislative Reception

The student chapter of the National Community Pharmacist Association at Ohio Northern University will hold its first Legislative Reception on Wednesday, April 20, at 4:30 p.m. at the Inn.

The reception will feature U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan as its keynote speaker. Jordan represents Ohio’s 4th District, in which Ohio Northern is located, and he will speak on current legislative, political and advocacy issues that affect the pharmacy profession.

Ashley Overy, an Ohio Northern University fifth-year pharmacy major from Grafton, Ohio, has won the 2011 Ohio Society of Health-System Pharmacists (OSHP) Student Scholarship Award.

ONU to present symposium on Division III athletics

Ohio Northern University presents “Paying the Price To Play: a symposium on the Division III Student Athlete Experience” on Thursday, April 14, 2011, at 7 p.m. in the Forum of James F. Dicke Hall.

The ONU History, Politics and Justice Department and the Office of Multicultural Affairs are sponsoring the event, which will feature two panels over a two-hour period. One panel will consist of Division III administrators and coaches, and the second panel will feature current and former athletes. The event is free and open to the public.

Black Law Student Association hosts 12th annual Diversity Forum

The Ohio Northern University Black Law Student Association’s 12th annual Diversity Forum will be held in the ONU Pettit College of Law Moot Court Room on Wednesday, April 20, at 11 a.m.

The forum, with the theme of “Being a Rainmaker Determines your Fate, so make it Rain or Clear it Out,” will feature Alvin E. Mathews Jr., a 1987 ONU law graduate and a member of Bricker & Eckler’s litigation group, and Sheria Holmes, a 2009 ONU law graduate and a contract attorney at Memphis Area Legal Services.

ONU team places second in regional concrete canoe contest

The Ohio Northern University concrete canoe team captured second place in the American Society of Civil Engineers’ regional concrete canoe contest at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Mich., April 1-3. The success qualifies ONU to compete in the national competition in Evansville, Ind., June 16-18.

Clarkson named to national post

Joe Clarkson, a senior in communication arts from Huntingdon, Pa., has been elected national vice president for internship and jobs at the PRSSA National Assembly in Seattle, Wash. He is the tenth ONU student to be elected to PRSSA’s National Committee.

College of Law to host talk on same-sex adoption law

Leading adoption law specialist Denise St. Clair will speak about same-sex adoption law at Ohio Northern University’s Pettit College of Law on Thursday, March 24, at 11:30 a.m. in the Moot Court Room. The presentation will be followed by a question-and-answer session.
         
Free and open to the public, this event is sponsored by the ONU LAMBDA Law Students’ Association. The purpose of LAMBDA is to raise awareness of the legal issues surrounding lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered individuals.

Pharmacy student appointed vice chair of ASHP Executive Committee

Ashley Overy, an Ohio Northern University fifth-year pharmacy student from Grafton, Ohio, has been appointed vice chair of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists’ (ASHP) Student Forum Executive Committee for the 2011-12 academic year beginning in June. Last year, Overy was the national student representative serving on the ASHP Council on Pharmacy Management.

Representatives of ONU’s Panhellenic Council attended the Association of Fraternal Leadership and Values Central Conference, Feb. 10-13, in St. Louis, Mo., and returned with honors for the organization.
