Three receive asphalt scholarships

Three juniors in civil engineering, Michael Abraham from Olmsted Falls, Ohio, Chad Coward from Crestline, Ohio, and Andrea Turnwald from Ottoville, Ohio, have received Hot Mix Asphalt scholarships. The scholarships are for $1,000 each.

Flexible Pavements of Ohio (FPO) and its member companies, working through the Ohio Asphalt Scholarship Fund, sponsor the scholarships at 10 universities in Ohio, which offer courses in asphalt pavement technology.

All three ONU recipients are students in Dr. Mohammad Ali Khasawneh’s Transportation II class.

Winners of pitch and poster competition announced

The winners of the Ohio Northern University’s James F. Dicke College of Business Administration entrepreneurial idea pitch and poster competition for area high school and college students have been announced. The competition took place Tuesday, Feb. 8.

Astronomy Club to Host Public Viewing Event

 The Ohio Northern University Astronomy Club invites ONU students, faculty and staff as well as Ada and the surrounding communities to an astronomy event in the ONU Observatory on Friday, Jan. 28, from 8-10 p.m.
 
The event is free and open to the public.

PRSSA Chapter Wins Solo Cup ‘Go Bare on Campus’ Challenge

Ohio Northern University’s chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) received a $1,000 grant after finishing first in the Solo Cup Company’s “Go Bare on Campus” challenge.

New Student Organization, ONUSHRM, Chartered

The new ONU Society for Human Resource Management (ONUSHRM) student chapter was chartered on Tuesday, Jan. 18.

The charter was presented by Charles Okorowski, president of Lima SHRM. Okorowski discussed human resources as a profession and "having a seat" at the table in terms of helping to develop corporate strategy and supporting decision-making.

Bottoni Receives Study Abroad Grant

Lydia J. Bottoni, a senior majoring in English and professional writing from Maumee, Ohio, was one of 45 recipients of a Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grant. Multiple Study Abroad Grants of $1,000 are awarded annually to help undergraduates as they seek knowledge and experience in their disciplines by venturing abroad.

Donley high achiever at Ohio Northern

By every measurable standard, Brent Donley had a great career as a college football player at Ohio Northern University.

The star running back from Southfield finished as the school's second-leading rusher with 3,298 yards and twice earned NCAA Division III All-America honors.

“I knew I was going to a good program and I was going to have a good career,” Donley, who was a two-way standout at West Bloomfield High School, said of his college choice.

Ashley Overy talks about her ASHP blog

Ashley Overy, a fifth-year pharmacy major from Grafton, Ohio, was interviewed during the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Midyear Clinical Meeting in Anaheim, Calif., for her work as an ASHP blogger. She talks about how social media opportunities help her share experiences with other students and stay connected with family and friends.

Engineering Students Win Big at Baja Competition

Two teams of Ohio Northern University engineering students garnered top 20 finishes in the regional Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) “Backwoods Baja,” race in Arkansaw, Wis., on Saturday, Oct. 23.

Hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Stout, the event consisted of two two-hour endurance races on a short motocross-style track. The freshman team, driving car No. 80, were plagued by drive-train problems throughout the race and finished 12th out of 25. ONU’s other entry, No. 41, finished second in a group of 25 after staying on course through all 184 laps.

Math Papers Presented

Junior mathematics majors Lauren Cassell,  Christopher Iliff  and Joseph Mileski  presented the paper, “Nine-Point Hyperbolas,” at the fall meetings of the Ohio Section of the Mathematical Association of America. 

The meetings were held at Ursuline College on Oct. 22 and 23, 2010.  At the same time Dr. Bill Fuller, associate professor of mathematics and chair of the department of mathematics, presented the paper, “Quaternions for Kinesthetic Learners,” in which he described a body-centered approach to introducing students to quaternion multiplication.
