Students, Professors Present Papers at Meeting of Anthropologists and Sociologists

Four students from ONU’s Department of Psychology and Sociology presented papers at the annual meeting of the Anthropologists and Sociologists of Kentucky, held at Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia Kentucky on Oct. 1-2.

 Seth Adelman, a junior in psychology from Monroeville, Ohio,  presented the paper “The Loss of Recess and the Potential Effects on Young Students.”

Students Present Original Research

Five ONU students presented original research at the Undergraduate Honor Conference held April 17 and 18 in conjunction with the Central States Communication Association in Cincinnati.

The students presented their research on film, a result of ONU’s  Rhetoric of Film course taught by Dr. Jennifer Walton, associate professor of communication arts.

The students participated in a panel titled “Race, Sex, Family, and Fairy Tales: Multiple Perspectives on the Rhetoric of Film.”

Students to Discuss Study Abroad

Five history, politics and justice majors will discuss their experiences studying abroad at a 7 p.m. presentation on Wednesday, May 5, in the James F. Dicke forum as part of the Phi Beta Delta International Forum.

Engineering Students Receive Asphalt Scholarships

Six civil engineering students, all juniors in the Prof. Mohammad Khasawneh’s Transportation II class, have been named recipients of Hot Mix Asphalt Scholarships. Prof. Khasawneh is an assistant professor of Civil Engineering in the Smull College of Engineering at Ohio Northern University.

They are Ryan P. Athy from Shelby, Ohio, Korey C. Sarven from Lima, Ohio, Shane R. Huntley from Sandusky, Ohio, Drew D. Richards from New Washington, Ohio, Jonathan J. Mihoci from Jefferson, Ohio, and Luke R. Miller from Indiana, Pa.

Multicultural Fair, April 19

Ohio Northern University’s Multicultural Fair, “Strength Through Diversity,” will be held in the McIntosh Activities Room on Monday, April 19, from 4-7 p.m.

The Ohio Northern University World Student Organization and the Office of Multicultural Development are sponsoring the event, which is free and open to the public.

The fair will feature cultural displays of objects, artifacts and pictures, samples of ethnic food, and a special presentation by the ONU Steel Pan Drum Band.

PRSSA Students Receive Honorable Mention in National Competition

The Ohio Northern University team of Joe Clarkson, a sophomore
from Huntingdon, Pa., Callie Crum, a senior
from Cardington, Ohio, Tegan Ellis, a senior from Marion, Ohio, and Amanda McKelvey, a senior
from Hammonton, N.J., received honorable mention in the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) 2010 Bateman Competition.

Working on a national public relations project to promote the 2010 census, the team researched, constructed and implemented a campaign titled “10 Minutes, 10 Questions, 10 Years.”

English Majors’ Vampire Bibliography to be Published

An annotated bibliography on vampires, the result of a year-long research project by three ONU English majors, will be published this summer by The New York Review of Science Fiction. The authors are: Samantha LaChey, a senior in creative writing/literature from Troy, Ohio; Merrill Miller, a  senior creative writing major from McMurray, Pa.; and Cailey Williams, a senior literature/French major from Eastlake, Ohio.
