Mortar Board chapter honored

The Aurora chapter of the National Mortar Board Society at Ohio Northern University was honored for excellence at the 2012 Mortar Board National Conference, held this past July in Chicago.

The Aurora chapter received the Silver Torch Award, an honor presented to chapters executing timeliness and dedication while exemplifying the ideals of scholarship, leadership and service. Silver Torch Award recipients are selected based on a review of national records, requiring that the chapter meet all of the national minimum standards and deadlines.

ONU adopts Engineering Projects In Community Service program for assisting local communities

The Ohio Northern University College of Engineering’s real-life class, Engineering Projects In Community Service (EPICS), is working on three major projects throughout the area: building a replica of the Mars rover Curiosity for the Armstrong Air and Space Museum in Wapakoneta, Ohio; refurbishing a concrete base for historical Civil War cannons in Forest, Ohio; and upgrading the village of Ada’s website.

Affinity Fun Run/Walk raises money for Imagination Library

The Affinity Fun Run/Walk 5K, hosted by the Office of Residence Life on Sept. 29 raised $1,300 for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, which supports children’s literacy in Hardin County.

The event, organized by Area Coordinator for Affinity West Melanie Vincent and Resident Director for Affinity East Tanya Wilsman and their resident assistants drew 190 ONU students to The Green Monster for this first time event.

Piano majors part of masterclass

Two Ohio Northern piano majors have been chosen to perform in a piano masterclass with Alexander Ghindin, an internationally acclaimed pianist, Oct. 10, at Ohio State University Lima. Chris Gray, a sophomore from Hopedale, Ohio, and Nathan Arant, a senior from Lima, Ohio, were part of the event. Gray will be performing Rachmaninoff's "Moments Musical", No. 4. and Arant will be performing Beethoven's "Waldstein" Sonata.

Grant funds debates, watch parties

The Department of History, Politics and Justice, and the student organizations of Pi Sigma Alpha, College Democrats, College Republicans and College Libertarians, received an $800 grant from the Ohio Campus Compact’s Campus Election Engagement Project (CEEP) to support on-campus activities aimed at increasing student voter engagement and participation.

Student safety week to focus on ‘Navigating Your Way to Personal Safety’

Ohio Northern University will begin its second annual student safety week, featuring a number of activities, on Oct. 8. The theme this year is “Navigating Your Way to Personal Safety.”

Sponsored by the ONU Security Office, in partnership with ONU’s Department of History, Politics and Justice and the Office of Business Services and Risk Management, the event will touch on subjects such as identity theft, relationship abuse and human trafficking.

ONU's chapter of American Society of Consulting Pharmacists to present therapy dog handler

The Ohio Northern University chapter of the American Society of Consulting Pharmacists (ASCP) will host a presentation on animal-assisted therapy led by Kim Bullock, a licensed social worker from Lima Memorial Hospital, in room 151 of ONU’s Hakes-Pierstorf Family Pharmacy Education Center on Monday, Sept. 10, at 7 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public.

Pharmacy student awarded Partners in Pharmacy scholarship

Ohio Northern University student Cortney Phillips, a sixth-year pharmacy major from Akron, Ohio, was awarded the Partners In Pharmacy scholarship from the National Community Pharmacy Foundation Association (NCPA).

Phillips was recognized for her exemplary academic performance, community service, and demonstrated commitment to independent pharmacy. Shewill receive $2,000 and will be recognized at the national NCPA convention in October.

Students from Ohio Northern University are traveling to the Republican and Democratic conventions and will participate in The Washington Center’s Democratic and Republican National Convention Academic Seminars.
