ONU student garners second in Deloitte/AAA Ohio Region Student Manuscript Competition

Megan Monaco, a sophomore from North Canton, Ohio majoring in accounting at Ohio Northern University's James F. Dicke College of Business Administration, garnered second place in the Undergraduate Division of the Deloitte-Touche/American Accounting Association Ohio Region Student Manuscript Competition.
Megan Monaco, a sophomore from North Canton, Ohio majoring in accounting at Ohio Northern University's James F. Dicke College of Business Administration, garnered second place in the Undergraduate Division of the Deloitte-Touche/American Accounting Association Ohio Region Student Manuscript Competition.

Monaco's entry was entitled "Lauren Manufacturing: A Case Study in the Implementation of Lean Accounting." Monaco received a plaque and a check for $250. Jill Christopher, associate professor of accounting, served as Monaco's advisor.

Christopher said, "We are proud of Megan's accomplishment, which reflects positively on the University's accounting program."

Monaco competed against students from a variety of Ohio schools, including the University of Miami (Ohio), Case Western Reserve, University of Akron, John Carroll, Cleveland State University, Otterbein, Ashland and the University of Toledo.

The Deloitte/AAA Region Manuscript competition is open to all undergraduate accounting students, and encourages undergraduate accounting majors to engage in reading that goes "beyond the textbook" to critically examine an issue and to polish their writing skills. Papers are graded on the significance of the issue(s) covered, the strength of defense for selecting the issue(s), the strength of analysis, and the merits of recommendations.
