ONU's Heartburn Awareness Challenge Receives Award

Through the efforts of student pharmacists, ONU's Heartburn Awareness Challenge has received its second regional award of the year. The award, "It Starts With One," was received at the Region 4 American Pharmacists Association Academy of Student Pharmacists (APhA-ASP) Midyear Regional Meeting. APhA-ASP chapters throughout Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin presented their top patient care projects for 2008, and ONU placed first.

This month, Kristen Finley and 14 ONU student pharmacists will travel to Kenya and will incorporate heartburn education in their mission work. For the past several years, ONU pharmacy students have had the opportunity to participate in an advanced pharmacy practice rotation in Kenya. The students spend a month as volunteers in a rural medical clinic. This year, the students traveling to Kenya have collected many samples of heartburn medications for the trip.
