ONU Students Compete in Idea Pitch Competition
Callie Crum, a junior communication arts major from Cardington, Ohio, captured first place. She collected $200 for her first place idea, an Ohio Northern recycling work study program.
Tiffanie Shanks, a senior communication arts major from Dayton, Ohio, won $100 for finishing in second place with her idea for multi-site church consulting. Pat Dochenetz, a sophomore marketing major from Gran Blanc, Mich.; Megan Duvall, a second-year pharmacy student from Fort Wayne, Ind.; Jared Everline, a senior management major from Canton, Ohio; Emily Lockwood, a senior music major from West Liberty, Ohio; and Alyssa Sneed, a third-year pharmacy student from Van Wert, Ohio, all finished in third place.
The Kern Family Foundation supports this quarterly event, which is open to all ONU students who look to improve or start a process or product for a profit or nonprofit business. Each winning participant competed in two rounds and was judged by a panel of experts.
The panel of 11 judges consisted of Dr. Michele Govekar, professor of business; Dr. Vic Motz, professor of chemistry; Matt Brown, representing Hays Insurance; Dr. Harry James Wilson, professor of geography; Dr. Sekhar Mamidi, professor of pharmacy; Craig Brown, representing the Ohio Small Business Development Center; Jason Szuch, representing Say Securities; Dr. Robert Kleine, professor of business; Dr. Vicki Motz, professor of biology; Dr. Jennifer Walton professor of communication arts; and Paul Nutter, professor of Technology.
