Dr. Sarah Miles is an Adjunct Instructor of Flute at ONU, a member of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra in Springfield, OH, and the Artistic Director for the Kettle Moraine Chamber Music Series in southeastern Wisconsin. She was recently named as a winner of the 2011 National Flute Association Convention Performers Competition and will perform at the 2011 NFA convention in Charlotte, NC. Dr. Miles also received 2nd place in the 2007 Chicago Flute Solo Artist Competition, was a semi-finalist in the William Byrd and Frank Bowen Young Artist Competitions, and was a winner of the Monroe Symphony Young Artist Competition in Monroe, LA.
Previously, Dr. Miles taught at Alma College in Alma, MI, and served as a teaching assistant at Michigan State University. She has also held positions with the Lansing, Midland, and Battle Creek symphonies, and has performed with the Chautauqua Symphony, and the musical “Wicked.” In the summer of 2000, Dr. Miles was a member of the touring American Wind Symphony Orchestra, and was a featured piccolo soloist with that group.
Dr. Miles received the Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees from Michigan State University and the Bachelor of Music degree from Louisiana State University. Her primary teachers were Richard Sherman and Katherine Kemler.
