ONU to hold entrepreneurship workshops

The Ohio Northern University Entrepreneur Center is holding a series of workshops on entrepreneurship. Preceding each workshop will be a networking event from 5:30- 6 p.m. The sessions will follow and conclude at 7 p.m. All workshops are free and open to the public.

These workshops were scheduled at the request of the ONU chapter of Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization (CEO), whose mission is to inform, support and inspire college students to be entrepreneurial and seek opportunity through enterprise creation.

“CEO wanted to meet other students interested in entrepreneurship and network with actual entrepreneurs in the area,” says Tammy Schakett, assistant professor of entrepreneurship in The James F. Dicke College of Business Administration. “There are few local resources for people interested in starting a business or developing a product idea. This entrepreneurship workshop series will encourage people to consider starting a business and give them access to information that can assist them in that process, which helps the area in economic development. The students will benefit from the exposure to these budding entrepreneurs.”

Dr. Michele Govekar, professor of management in College of Business Administration, will lead the first workshop on Oct. 4, 2011. This first workshop will be titled “Why Do I need a Business Plan?”

On Nov. 1, 2011, Matt Jennings, chief executive officer of Quest Federal Credit Union, will speak on “Branding My Business: Names, Logos and Target Market.”

Craig Brown, a business advisor with the Small Business Development at Rhodes State College, will lead “Working with the SBDC” on Nov. 29, 2011.

Matthew Phillips, ONU assistant professor of accounting, will present “Small Business Taxes” on Jan. 24, 2012.

Chad Hayes, partner and managing agent at Hays Insurance Agencies, will present “Business Insurance: What Kind and How Much” on Feb. 21, 2012.

Matt Brown, president of the Ada Chamber of Commerce, will present “Social Media? Is it Right for My Small Business?” on March 13, 2012.

Dustin Brooks, financial advisor for Edward Jones Investments, will present “Working with Interesting People” on April 10, 2012.

Zachary Ferres, entrepreneur at BounceFire, will conclude the entrepreneurship workshops for 2011-12 with “Company Culture Resonates Through your Brand” on May 1, 2012.
