ONU presents Carroll V. Lovett Distinguished Lecture

Ohio Northern University’s James F. Dicke College of Business Administration will present “Moral Courage,” a lecture by Signe S. Gates, as part of the Carroll V. Lovett Distinguished Lecture Series in the Dicke Forum on Wednesday, March 21, at 7 p.m.

Gates is a member of the Board of Trustees at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pa., and vice chair of the university’s Executive Committee. She also chairs the Board of Trustees for the Peter B. Knock Memorial Music Fund in Rye, N.Y.

Gates began her career as a management consultant before working as a corporate attorney with Cummings & Lockwood in Stamford, Conn., and then Tetley Inc. in Shelton, Conn.

She worked with General Signal Corporation in Stamford, Conn., from 1985-96, serving as assistant general counsel and secretary to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors. From 1996-99, Gates was vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary for Axel Johnson Inc. in Stamford, Conn. From 1999-2010, Gates served as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary at Barnes Group Inc. in Bristol, Conn. She retired from Barnes Group in 2010.

Gates earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Susquehanna University and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Michigan Law School. Gates was admitted to practice law in Connecticut in 1981, and she’s a member of the Connecticut and American Bar Associations.

The Carroll V. Lovett Distinguished Lecture Series was established by a bequest of Florence V. Lovett in honor of her son, Carroll Lovett, a 1961 ONU graduate and retired manager from the Xerox Corporation.

This event is free and open to the public.
