Symphonic Band presents ‘The Fantastics’

The Ohio Northern University Freed Center for the Performing Arts presents ONU’s Symphonic Band’s spring concert in the Biggs Theatre on March 22 at 7:30 p.m.

The concert, titled “The Fantastics,” will be devoted to well-known composers Ludwig van Beethoven, Aaron Copland, Felix Mendelssohn, Hector Berlioz and Duke Ellington. The program will include Beethoven’s “Egmont Overture,” “March to the Scaffold” by Berlioz and “Fanfare for the Common Man” by Copland.

Nicholas Saunders, a junior engineering major from West Mifflin, Pa., will perform “Excerpts from Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto,” and Adriane Thompson-Bradshaw, vice president for student affairs, will sing Ellington’s “Sophisticated Lady.” 

The conductor for the evening will be Erin Grim, director of bands at Bath High School, co-principle flutist of the Lima Symphony Orchestra and the director of the Lima Area Youth Orchestra. The Symphonic Band is under the direction of Dr. Charles N. Bates

Tickets are $15 for general admission, $12 for seniors and students, and $9 for children. The Freed Center box office is open Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Phone orders are accepted with American Express, MasterCard, VISA or Discover by calling 419-772-1900.
