Ohio Northern University to host political events in October

Ohio Northern University will host a number of election-themed events throughout the month of October.

On Oct. 9, the ONU student chapters of the College Libertarians, College Republicans and College Democrats will hold a “Get Out the Vote” event in the McIntosh Activities Center beginning at 5:30 p.m. Each group will provide candidate information for interested students.

A student political debate will be held in the McIntosh Activities Room on Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. Members of the ONU student chapters of the College Libertarians, College Republicans and College Democrats will discuss topics ranging from the economy to domestic policies.

A second debate focusing on health care, conducted by the ONU student chapter of the National Community Pharmacist’s Association, will be held in room 151 of the Raabe College of Pharmacy on Oct. 22 at 5 p.m.

These events were made possible through a grant from the Ohio Campus Compact (OCC) Campus Engagement Project to help engage young voters. OCC is a nonprofit network of 47 member campuses across the state that seeks to involve students, faculty and staff in service-learning and civic engagement in order to educate, prepare tomorrow’s leaders and contribute to the quality of life in America’s communities.

OCC’s Campus Election Engagement Project supports and links campus voters’ mobilization efforts around the state by providing valuable resources and tools to help student leaders, faculty and staff educate and empower students to vote and actively engage in America’s democracy.
