ONU's Central Ohio Alumni Club to coordinate volunteer day

The Ohio Northern University Central Ohio Alumni Club will coordinate a day of service on Saturday, Feb. 9, at three locations in Columbus: Charitable Pharmacy of Central Ohio, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Columbus ReStore, and the United Methodist Church Community Development for All People Free Store. All three events begin at 9 a.m.

The Charitable Pharmacy of Central Ohio works to provide affordable prescription medications for low-income, uninsured and underinsured individuals who are challenged by gaps in their insurance coverage or accessing medications. Volunteers at this event must have a current Ohio pharmacy or intern license or be a qualified technician; they will be asked to sort prescriptions.

Habitat’s ReStore will ask volunteers to participate as sorters or counter staff. ReStore is a discount home improvement store that accepts and re-sells new and reusable home-improvement building materials. As part of Habitat’s goal to eliminate substandard housing and promote home ownership, the store is open to the public. All revenue generated goes directly to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Columbus. Volunteers for this service need to wear comfortable clothing that they do not mind getting dirty.

At the United Methodist Church’s Community Development for All People Free Store, volunteers will participate as sorters, counter staff and hospitality hosts and work in the community garden (weather permitting). The United Methodist Free Store provides clothing and household items to families in a way that affirms the self-worth of each individual. Shoppers can browse comfortably while sharing conversation, life stories and prayers.

Ohio Northern University’s Central Ohio Alumni Club strives to facilitate opportunities for area ONU alumni to stay connected to the University and each other. Through the support of collective activities and endeavors, its vision is to foster interaction and camaraderie among area alumni as well as provide support for the University and club members.

Individuals can register online at onualumnicommunity.com by Feb. 1 or call the Office of Alumni Relations at 866-ONU-ALUM so that the charities can be notified of the number of volunteers and make a reservation for lunch.
