Housing and Dining Information
Ohio Northern University offers a variety of housing options. Please carefully examine both the housing information and the dining information before completing the Housing Application below!
Housing options (University Apartments, suites, and traditional residence halls) include: furniture (desks, closets, beds, dressers), free wireless internet access, utilities (electricity, water, gas, cable) and free washers and dryers.
On-campus vs. Off-campus living
All incoming Ohio Northern University international students are required to live on campus for 1 year unless they meet one of the following criteria:
- The student is 23 years old
- Commuting from the permanent residence of a parent, grandparent, or sibling, within a 30-mile drive to campus
- Has earned an undergraduate degree
- Is married
- Will be arriving to the United States with an F-2 dependent
- Has lived on-campus at Ohio Northern University for 1 year
From experience, we have found that students who live on-campus tend to be more successful academically, more involved in ONU’s culture, and they develop more friendships than students who live off-campus. We highly encourage incoming international students to live on-campus. To learn about what life is like living on-campus click here.
If you meet one of the above requirements, you are allowed to live off-campus. If you plan on living off-campus please plan on arriving to Ohio at least a week before the set arrival date so that you may find an apartment to rent. Ada is a small town and there are not many available apartments to rent so it may take time to find something suitable.

Meal Plan Information
In order to estimate the total cost of your room and board, you must also include the cost of your meal plan.
All students living in a residence hall (Affinity, Lima, Roberts, Northern House, Maglott, Park, Brookhart, Stambaugh, 5UP, Founders), have the carte blanche meal plan. This meal plan costs $2610 per semester.
All apartments (Polar Place, Northern Commons, Klondike's Den, Stadiumview West/East) include $300 dining dollars per semester. If you would like to add additional dining dollars, or a full meal plan, please contact the Office of Residence Life at email@example.com
Polar Points are point values that represent a prepaid, stored-value/debit account that is accessible via your Ohio Northern University ID Card. It is the convenient, cashless way to pay for meals on-campus, and you can also use it at many locations off-campus. You can add as much or as little Polar Dollars to your account as you like by simply visiting the Controller’s Office once you arrive to campus. Please note: any money left in the form of Polar Dollars at the END of the school year will be forfeited. However, Polar Dollars will carry over from one semester to the next during the academic year.
