The Bachelor of Science Nursing Program at Ohio Northern University is seeking continuing accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. A site visit from the Commission is scheduled for April 10-12, 2013.

Ohio Northern’s four-year academic program in nursing leads to a BSN in nursing degree. The nursing program specifically aims to:

  1. Prepare graduates for employment at the professional nursing level.
  2. Provide a base for the continuing development of the student as an individual, as a citizen and as a professional practitioner of nursing.
  3. Provide a foundation for graduate study in nursing.

Facilities

The nursing program is housed in the Mathile Center for the Natural Sciences. Our facilities contain the Nursing Skills Lab, SIM man, Vital SIM man, patient mannequins and two six-bed hospital environments, each with a complete, dedicated equipment station.

Graduates of the program will be able to:

  • Integrate a personal philosophy for nursing practice, based on the dignity, worth and individuality of human beings.
  • Assume responsibility and accountability for evaluating one’s professional practice in relationship to accepted standards of nursing practice.
  • Synthesize theoretical principles applicable to professional nursing practice.
  • Utilize the nursing process to promote, restore and maintain adaptation in individuals, families, groups and communities throughout the lifecycle.
  • Assume responsibility and accountability for providing competent and comprehensive health care.
  • Collaborate and negotiate with patients/clients, the interdisciplinary health care team and the public to ensure the optimal health and welfare of patients/clients.
  • Evaluate interpersonal communication and negotiation skills when communicating with patients, clients, families, groups and communities.
  • Incorporate pertinent research findings in refining and enhancing one’s nursing practice.
  • Continue personal and professional career development.
