Cole to Speak on Transcending Turbulence in the Auto Industry

Dr. David E. Cole will speak on "Transcending Turbulence in the Auto Industry: A New Beginning?" at the Carroll V. Lovett Distinguished Lecture Series in the Ohio Northern University Freed Center for the Performing Arts at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 1. Cole is the chairman of the Center for Automotive Research (CAR) in Ann Arbor, Mich. He is a former director of the Office for the Study of Automotive Transportation (OSAT) at the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute, and he has worked extensively on internal combustion engines, vehicle design and overall automotive industry trends. SAM Team Captures Second

The Ohio Northern University Society for the Advancement of Management (SAM) two-person team of Andrew Michel, a junior marketing major from Clayon, Ohio, and Atlantis Ricther, a sophomore marketing major from Franklin, Ind., captured second place at the Tau Pi Phi Case Competition held at Capital University from March 28-29. The ONU SAM team competed against 17 teams comprised of students from Capital University, Juniata College, Marietta College, Mount Union College, Ohio Dominican University and Wittenberg University. SIFE Team Places at Regional Competition

Ohio Northern University Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) competed at the SIFE USA Regional Competition on March 19 in Cleveland. Northern's SIFE team was the first runner-up at this year's competition. The event was one of 16 SIFE USA Regional Competitions held throughout March and April. The winners from all regional competitions will proceed to SIFE's National Exposition in Chicago from May 13-15. ONU Students to Study in South Korea

Eight undergraduate students from Ohio Northern University have been selected for Hanyang University Summer Program Fellowships for 2008. Two students from each of the University's undergraduate colleges will spend four weeks in summer studies at Hanyang University in South Korea followed by a one-week trip to China. Receiving fellowships for 2008 are College of Business Administration students Chris Corrado, a junior in marketing from Cincinnati, Ohio, and Beth Thornton, a senior in accounting from Wapakoneta, Ohio. ONU Student Receives OSCPA Scholarship

Ohio Northern University senior Megan Monaco has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants (OSCPA). An accounting major from North Canton, Ohio, Monaco was selected for one of just 10 statewide scholarship awards from the society. She also was invited to participate in the OSCPA annual scholarship day in the spring, where she will compete with nine other OSCPA Statewide Scholarship recipients for an additional $3,000 award. Ohio Northern Students to Help with Tax Preparation

Elderly and low-income tax payers in Allen and Hardin counties can find free income tax assistance from Ohio Northern University law and accounting students through Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA). The VITA Program offers free tax help to low- to moderate-income (generally, $40,000 and below) individuals across the country who cannot prepare tax returns on their own. As part of this program, ONU students have received training to help prepare basic tax returns and identify special credits, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), Child Tax Credit and Credit for the Elderly. ONU to Hold Mock Interview Day for Business Students

The James F. Dicke College of Business Administration at Ohio Northern University will hold a mock interview day on Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 9:15 a.m. in James F. Dicke Hall. More than 20 corporations from the region and Michigan will be on campus to conduct mock interviews with junior and senior business administration majors. The James F. Dicke College of Business Administration at Ohio Northern University will present Elizabeth H. Klimes, vice president of Six Sigma for Eli Lilly and Company, in the next installment of the Dean's Distinguished Lecture Series on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. in the Dicke Forum. Klimes's lecture is entitled "Charting Healthcare's New Frontier." ONU receives $3 million gift from Beeler estate

Ohio Northern University has received a gift of more than $3 million from the estate of Eugene A. Beeler. Beeler, who passed away in October of 2006, graduated from ONU in 1949 with a bachelor of arts and science degree and a major in accounting. Beeler was a certified public accountant and a founding partner in Howard & Beeler in Lima, Ohio, now known as Lentol, Violet Kientz & Co. The distribution of the gift will be applied to ONU’s endowment fund and will benefit the ONU general fund, The James F. Dicke College of Business Administration and the Eugene A.
