International Theatre Production

The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in International Theatre Production at Ohio Northern University is a unique program focusing on the areas of theatrical design, production and stage management including the many variations of theatrical practice that occur in different areas of the world. By exploring the cultural and practical differences in theatre production, our students will gain a better understanding of not only theatre here in the United States, but also, overseas, and in the areas of opera and touring production.

Singing in the Rain

The program facilitates this diverse approach by hiring in designers, directors and playwrights from around the world. In past years, guest artists have come from Scotland, Iceland, Estonia, Portugal, Ireland, Mexico, and England. The opportunity for our students to be able to work closely with these artists, coupled with symposiums, master classes and other formal instruction is the foundation of our approach to teaching.

The curriculum is modeled along the lines of a traditional B.F.A. program, with the addition of a required overseas internship, as well as the opportunity for international touring experience. The program frequents the Edinburgh Fringe Festival on a revolving cycle.

Double Majors with other academic programs are permitted.

Curriculum

International Theatre Production graduates students with a comprehensive knowledge of the aspect of theatre technology and design. Students are exposed to the different methodologies employed by theatre artists from across the globe, providing students with a broad understanding of the theatre arts. The program is intended for the individual who plans to pursue a professional career, graduate study or further training in theatre. Students are expected to successfully complete portfolio reviews each year during their course of study. Failure to successfully complete two portfolio reviews in a row may result in dismissal from the program.
