What classes do finance minors take?
The finance program builds on a core business curriculum of corporate theory, investments, international finance and accounting, and provides a professional course of study grounded in the fundamentals of financial theory. Students conduct research using financial resources and databases such as Reuters, BridgeStation and Standard & Poor’s. minors can tailor their curriculum by choosing electives related to financial markets and institutions, money and banking, health-care finance, insurance, or business valuation.
Do I need an internship?
Yes, classroom study is only one part of the The James F. Dicke College of Business Administration experience. Finance minors gain practical experience by participating in a four-credit-hour internship during their junior or senior year.
How can I get involved as a finance minor?
Minors can join the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA). IMA provides a dynamic forum for management-accounting and finance professionals to develop and advance their careers through certification, research and practice development, education, and networking. The Student Investment Group (SIG) exposes it members to real-world applications of financial theory. The SIG is not a simulation; members invest in real markets with real money. Also, finance minors can join Beta Alpha Psi, an honorary organization for financial-information students. Members of Beta Alpha Psi promote the study and practice of accounting, finance and information systems.
