Women's Chorus
About Women's Chorus
The Ohio Northern University Women's Chorus performs two concerts per year plus additional performances on occasion. The chorus is open to female students, staff, faculty, and members of the community: all women who like to sing, regardless of previous choral experience. There is not an audition. Rehearsals are Wednesdays 8:00-10:00 PM, in the Snyder Recital Hall of Presser. One hour of course credit is available for students.
Past Performances
Performances include all styles of music that are originally written for women's voices or have been arranged for women. Recent performances have included works by J.S. Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Felix Mendelssohn, Michael Haydn, Rollo Dilworth, and Carole King. Multicultural works and works that include instrumental accompaniment are also programmed frequently. A previous concert consisted of all works for women's voices by female composers.
In two recent concerts the ONU Women's Chorus had the privilege to sing the world premieres of two brand new works. In April 2010, they performed "Sisters, Tell Them the News," a gospel work accompanied by piano which was composed by Douglas M. Heflin, ASCAP. This past November 2010, the chorus premiered "Ave Maria" by Dr. C. Timothy Blickhan-- an a cappella work in the 20th Century style.
