Contract Courses

Each Honors Program student signs up for two (2) Contract Courses as he or she progresses in his or her chosen field of study. In an existing upper-division course, the Honors Program student "contracts" with a faculty member to do supplementary work following up on a special interest in greater depth. While contract courses must be at the 300-level and above, Honors Program students may also complete a contract course in their field of study while studying abroad. Students who would like to pursue a contract course may download the contract course form then consult with Dr. Croskery and the course instructor.

Sample topics from previous years:

• Fall Quarter 2010-2011: : Krista Shorf: researched and performed a work by Hildegard von Bingen and wrote program notes discussing her life and works.



• Fall Quarter 2009-2010: In conjunction with her study abroad experience, : Rachel Spence: wrote a paper on the topic of Russia's foreign policy towards the Korean Peninsula and gave a presentation to the Putin's Russia class.



• Fall Quarter 2007-2008: David Walters designed a three part assembly and used computer design software to create 3-D models, drawings, 3-D animations, and stress analysis and optimization of the assembly. He then printed physical parts matching those represented by the models using a rapid prototyping machine



• Spring Quarter 2005-2006: Jeremy L. Schroeder worked with with a non-HP student and industry professionals to design a mix of superpave asphalt. The report on this mix received first place in the Flexible Pavements of Ohio Asphalt Mixture Performance Competition.



• Fall Quarter 2004-2005: HPers Bethany Dare and Rebecca Storbeck worked as Program Assistants for the Sakae Institute over the summer. After getting input from the students and instructors in two classes, they worked on a manual for the Sakae Institute next year.



• Fall Quarter 2003-2004: HPers Justin Stiles and Ashley Middelberg did research to discover relationships between temperature and skid resistence on a roadway, and to determine how skid resistence changes over time in conjunction with CE 351: Transportation.



• Fall Quarter 2002-2003: HPer Jason Kaseman created an online journal in which he conducted an ongoing comparative analysis of Scottish politics for his study abroad experience at Glasgow Caledonian University.
