Pharmacy students meet with legislators at 2012 NCPA Conference
Eleven students from the Ohio Northern University Raabe College of Pharmacy attended the 2012 National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) Conference on National Legislation and Government Affairs in Washington, D.C., from May 7-10.

College of Pharmacy forms student chapter of the Personalized Medicine Coalition
Students in the Ohio Northern University Raabe College of Pharmacy have formed a student chapter of the Personalized Medicine Coalition (PMC). More than 100 students comprise the newly formed group.
The purpose of this ONU student PMC chapter is to foster the development and awareness of personalized medicine both educationally and professionally. The organization consists of six sections based on the PMC document “The Case for Personalized Medicine”: technology, regulatory policy, payment, health information technology, genetic non-discrimination and medical education.

Pair earn AACP scholarship
Lauren Rupp, a fifth-year Ohio Northern University pharmacy student from Archbold, Ohio, and Deirdre Myers, a pharmacy instructor in ONU’s Raabe College of Pharmacy, have been awarded a 2012 American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Walmart Scholarship.

ONU to celebrate National Women’s Health Week
Ohio Northern University’s Kappa Epsilon (KE) will celebrate National Women’s Health Week by hosting women’s health events in the Ada, Kenton and Lima, Ohio, communities from April 17 to 27. This year’s theme is “It’s Your Time!”
KE will be at several local locations to distribute information about preventive screenings, increasing physical activity, nutrition, mental health and smoking cessation. In addition, they will offer blood pressure screenings and information on heart health.

Kappa Epsilon to sponsor women’s health education
In celebration of National Women’s Health Week, 2012, Kappa Epsilon, the women’s professional pharmacy sorority, will be offering health education and screening in six different locations during April. The events will include information on preventive screenings, increasing physical activity, nutrition, mental health and smoking cessation. Kappa Epsilon members will also offer blood pressure screening and information on heart health.

Poster presentaton selected as outstanding
Sara Ginty, a fourth-year pharmacy student and organizational communication minor from Olmsted Falls, Ohio, presented at the Central States Communication Association Undergraduate Conference, March 28-31, 2012, in Cleveland. This year’s conference was exceptionally competitive with a less than at 25 percent acceptance rate. Ginty’s work was selected as an outstanding poster presentation at the conference.

Pharmacy student awarded Student Leadership Award
Ohio Northern University student Calvin Ice, a fifth-year pharmacy major from Rawson, Ohio, has been chosen as a recipient of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Student Leadership Award. Ice is one of 12 students in the nation to be selected for the award.

ONU receives accolades at national convention; Sobotka sworn in as APhA president
Jenelle L. Sobotka, Ohio Northern University Raabe College of Pharmacy professor and endowed chair, was sworn in as president of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) at its annual conference, APhA2012, in New Orleans from March 9-12.

Pharmacy partners with OhioHealth to co-sponsor fellowship
The Ohio Northern University Raabe College of Pharmacy and OhioHealth have partnered to co-sponsor a one-year Executive Fellowship in Pharmacy Administration and Professional Leadership.
Through engagement and ownership of activities in health system corporate management, together with professional advocacy and leadership, this newly developed postgraduate training program will help the fellow develop and enhance their management and leadership skills.
