Drupal 6 Update
The ONU Web site has been updated to the most recent version of the Drupal content management system. With the update, some familiar features have changed and some new ones have been added. This page will help you identify where the changes have occurred and explain how to create and edit content in the new system.
Administration Theme
The most noticeable change to the Web site is the new Administration Theme. When contributors add/ edit content, they will now see a predominantly white layout with an orange bar and “Ohio Northern University” at the top. This change was made to avoid confusion about when a contributor is in edit mode or view mode. Also, this will be the mandated approach to adding/editing content in future Drupal versions.
Images
Uploading images is handled differently in Drupal 6. Instead of inserting images directly into the body section of a page or other content type, there is now a dedicated section in the administration menu to upload and size images. Simply place your cursor in the body section where you want the image to go, and use the Image field to upload the image. There is also a similar field for thumbnail images, which allows users to scale and crop a larger image into a thumbnail.
In order to position a photo to the right or left of a page, double click on the image after inserting it into the body field. In the Image Properties box that appears, click on the Advanced tab and set the Stylesheet Classes field to either image_right or image_left to achieve desired placement.
WYSIWYG Editor
The what-you-see-is-what-you-get editor is slightly changed in Drupal 6. The buttons look different, but they perform the same function our contributors are used to. The biggest difference is the SOURCE button, which was formerly the HTML button. Also, a new window no longer opens up when editing a page via the source code.
Other differences you might notice
- The SUBMIT button has been replace with SAVE in Drupal 6.
- The TEASER content field has been replaced with a button in the WYSIWYG that will divide body content from teaser content. Anything in the body section that appears above the break will appear as a teaser where applicable.
