Faculty Ambassadors
When you become an ONU student, you benefit from stimulating relationships with our faculty. You engage with faculty during office hours, student organization meetings and campus life activities. You see your professors outside of the classroom, in local restaurants and at the grocery store. You and your classmates may be invited over for dinner, or you may travel with faculty on service trips with Habitat for Humanity, or accompany them to a conference to present research that you worked on together.
Being an undergraduate-focused institution, we hire faculty who desire, first and foremost, to teach YOU.

You might meet one of them during your campus visit or at a scholarship competition. They work hard to ensure that you graduate with a quality education and are prepared to enter the work force or graduate school. Dr. Alisa Agozzino
I love that I enjoying coming to my job every day. As a faculty member in our well-established and nationally recognized public relations program, I teach a variety of courses: Intro to PR, PR writing, Campaigns, and my very favorite...Social Media in PR. Because of our national reputation, ONU students are challenged and compete with their peers around the nation for top-notch awards and recognition, internships, and jobs. Come visit campus on a Thursday and be sure to stick around for our 7 pm Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) meeting, where you are sure to meet our ONU PR students, as well as an established speaker who is presenting an aspect of public relations to the group.
Dr. Russ Crawford
I teach a wide variety of history classes, including Western Civilization, 20th Century U.S., World War II, East Asia and sport. The Western Civilization classes are part of our general education requirement, and in addition to teaching the fascinating story of how the West has evolved over the centuries, I also work with students to develop skills they can use throughout the University. My sport history classes focus on sport as an important feature of our culture; through games, we can learn a great deal about how American culture became what it is today. The East Asian courses are part of ONU’s Asian Studies minor, and in summer 2010 I am off to China to teach a course in Chengdu, which should give me some fascinating insights. Along with my teaching duties, I advise students majoring in social studies. Before earning my Ph.D. in history at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, I earned a B.S. in social studies education from Chadron State College and taught in public schools for eight years. After teaching at a large, public university for a year, I came to ONU, and I much prefer the small university feel. The students at ONU are a superior bunch, and it is my pleasure to help guide them through their university careers!
Professor Richard Gainey
I have been here for over twenty years and the Ohio Northern campus has changed quite a lot over that time. I direct the Electronic Media and Broadcasting program and work with the campus radio station and cable system. Twenty years ago, WONB 94.9FM was playing records. Today, all of our music is digital and we stream audio and video over the internet as well as over the airwaves. WONB can be seen and heard at www.wonb.net and ONU 3 TV, our local access channel. We also upload campus news to Facebook (facebook.com/onu3tv). When I first arrived, the campus was able to watch 2-3 TV stations. Now, ONU Cable TV provides more than 70 channels of programming to our students. Our teaching has changed as well. No longer are we restricted to lectures in the classroom, but now we hold classes online, talk to experts around the world via Skype, and many of our textbooks are paper-free, online and digital.
One thing that hasn't changed is the importance of giving back to the community. My students in audio and video production develop public service announcements on behalf of local charities and non-profits. That's important to ONU and to me. In my free time around the Christmas holidays, I make appearances as Santa Claus and raise money on behalf of animal shelters and spay/neuter clinics. Come be a part of Ohio Northern University!
Dr. David Kisor
I am a Professor of Pharmacokinetics and Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences. I teach pharmacokinetics, which is the study of the time course of drug movement through the body and can be thought of as “what the body does to the drug”. Working at ONU is a privilege because I have direct contact with the students and do not work through graduate students. The ONU students are constantly pushing the faculty to help them excel in academics. This keeps me engaged with what is happening in the field of pharmacokinetics so I can keep the student at the forefront of pharmacokinetic education. I am originally from Cleveland, Ohio. I am a huge baseball fan, having coached youth teams and summer high school teams for many years.
Jennifer J. Kline, PharmD, RPh
I teach in the College of Pharmacy (mostly in the Profession Of Pharmacy sequence in the first two years, but also some lectures in the 4th year and experiential lectures in the 5th year), and I work in the Experiential Education Office to help schedule all Introductory and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPEs and APPEs). I love working with students and pharmacists outside the college to help create positive learning experiences for future pharmacists. ONU’s campus is beautiful and the faculty members here truly care about students. It is a very positive and rewarding atmosphere for students and faculty!
Dr. Jay Mager
Jay Mager is an Assistant Professor of Biological & Allied Health Sciences, where he teaches introductory courses in biology and zoology, as well as advance courses in ecology, animal behavior, and ornithology. He enjoys working with his students, encouraging them to take advantage of a liberal arts education at ONU while always trying to get them to think critically outside of the box. When not rooting for various sports teams (he bleeds Pittsburgh Black and Gold), Jay enjoys cooking, concerts, spending time with his 3-year-old daughter, and doing various outdoor activities.
Dr. Amy Stockert
I teach biochemistry and nutrition. I have several roles: teacher, mentor, researcher, advisor. I chose ONU because I went to a smaller undergraduate institution where I had contact with my Professors. I wanted to offer the same to students now. I love interacting with students and enjoy the challenge of finding new ways to explain things. I enjoy nature as well like to spend time camping and hiking. I also do some nature photography in my spare time.
Dr. Sunny Zank
Dr. Sunny Zank is a professor of music with teaching experience in music theory, music history, electronic music, composition, non-western music and violin/viola. She is active in the College Music Society, National Association of Schools of Music and Japan Studies Association.
She came to ONU in 1993 because she was looking for a smallish private university where she could share her many diverse talents with students and community. In 1999 she began to actively work towards building an Asian Studies program at ONU. Today, there is a minor in Asian Studies and there is an Asian American Student Union on campus.
While Dr. Zank has lived and studied in the US, Canada and Europe she thinks of herself mostly as a Canadian. In the summer it is common to find her in her organic strawberry patch. Some of the berries even make it to the freezer.
