Ohio Northern University has been recognized in the Center for Student Opportunity’s “2011 College Access and Opportunity Guide,” a comprehensive guidebook designed to help low-income, first-generation college-bound students make their college dreams a reality.
According to the College Board, high-achieving students from low-income families have about the same chance of enrolling in college as low-achieving students from wealthier families. However, those who do make it to college do not find supportive environments or continue on to graduation. A recent USA Today article notes that 89 percent of low-income, first-generation students leave college without a degree within six years.
“At ONU, we are committed to assisting qualified students from diverse backgrounds achieve their educational goals,” said Karen Condeni, ONU vice president and dean of enrollment. “We have a supportive environment plus the individual attention needed to help our students succeed. We are pleased to be recognized in this guide for our efforts.”
Published by Sourcebooks, a leader in college guides and study aids, the “2011 College Access and Opportunity Guide” (ISBN 9781402244049; July 2010) is a significant breakthrough in arming students and their supporters with the necessary information to pursue and succeed in college.

- A four-step plan to college developed by partners KnowHow2GO
- Articles and advice from college students and other experts
