Grants received

Grants to fund teaching and learning, live theatre and application of engineering education have been received by ONU.

Forrest Clingerman, Ph.D., associate professor of philosophy and religion, has received a $15,400 grant from the Wabash Center for Teaching and Learning in Theology and Religion for a project titled “Fostering Research Programs in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) in Religion and Theology.”  The intent of the project is to develop a scholarly cohort of eight recently tenured and tenure-track faculty from various institutions with interests in SoTL. The grant will be used to cover the costs of a writer’s retreat to work on existing research as well as to discuss research questions, methods and challenges. This is an expansion of a previous grant awarded to Clingerman from the Wabash Center. The Wabash Center, located at Wabash College, Crawfordsville, Ind., is funded by Lilly Endowment Inc.

Jerica Humphrey, managing director of the Freed Center for the Performing Arts, has secured a $5,000 grant from the U.S. Bancorp Foundation to support the Jan. 19 performance of the National Players “Romeo and Juliet.”

Ken Reid, Ph.D., associate professor of electrical & computer engineering and director of engineering education, and Deborah Gallagher, Ph.D., assistant professor of education, have received an $8,000 grant from the Procter & Gamble Fund for Higher Education Program for the project titled “Cutting edge, real-life application of Engineering Education.” This involves the creation of a unique, multi-disciplinary course, International Application of Engineering Education, which combines ONU’s innovative programs in STEM education with a focus on international, hands-on experiential learning.
