Individual Leadership Development

The Leadership ExperienceLeaders’ Council offers individual leadership development programs throughout the year that are open to all students. These workshops include topics such as leadership styles, communication styles and personal goal setting skills. Also, if you have a suggestion for an individual leadership development topic, please e-mail Leaders’ Council at leaderscouncil@onu.edu

In addition to individual workshops, Leaders’ Council also offers a leadership series, which takes place over the course of several weeks or months. The leadership series, The Leadership Experience (LX), focuses on numerous leadership components that include leadership behaviors, styles and qualities. Due to length,LX allows for more discussion and an in-depth look at different leadership topics. The Leadership Experience, was first offered during the 2008-09 academic year and is now being offered on a permanent basis.  For detailed information about the series and when they are offered, please see below.

The Leadership Experience

The Leadership Experience, or LX, is a five session, interactive experience in which ten to fifteen students will discover their personal leadership potential and develop a leadership vision. The first session will begin with a SWOT and DISC analysis and reflection, which will later connect to leadership behaviors, inspirational endeavors and the proponents of effective action plans. Participation will not be based on prior leadership experience; rather, it will aim to attract young or novice students with a propensity for futures in leadership roles.

Participation in LX is open to all students and is based on faculty- student- or self-nomination. Any student interested in participating in LX is encouraged to email Leaders’ Council at leaderscouncil@onu.edu for a self-nomination form.

The Leadership Experience is offered once during each academic semesetr and occurs over a five-week period, one 90-minute session per week. Exact days and times are based on the schedule of each participant and are not determined until all participants are selected.

Past Participant Comments – See what past participants have said about LX.

“I wanted to learn more about myself and others. I learned I need to be more passionate about what I do and find something that motivates me to be better.” -Kayla Shadley, 2010

“Being offered an opportunity to further my leadership experience while learning ways to grow as a leader was something not everyone is offered. The expectations I had were met and even more-so – the organization, passion and attitude the Leaders’ Council Members had was phenomenal!” -Kathleen Baker, 2010

“LX provided me with a great opportunity to explore, understand and develop my personal leadership skills and gave me a plan to implement my ideas and goals.” -Lee Saunders, 2012
