Opening the Way Multicultural Reception

Used as a formal introduction and welcome to ONU, the incoming multicultural students annually attend this reception. The reception serves as the first opportunity for students to develop relationships within the circle of the multicultural students, faculty and staff, as well as the president of Ohio Northern University.

Harambe Festival

“Harambe” a word from the Swahili language that means “working together in unity.” This welcoming celebration is designed to acquaint the University community with the Multicultural Center and the Office of Multicultural Development (OMD). Student representatives of the multicultural organizations, as well as staff from the educational support areas of the University, are present and involved to identify themselves as resources for the new students.

Kuumba Festival

“Kuumba” is a word from the Swahili language that means “creativity.” This annual festival is usually held during the first week of Black History Month. It is a showcase of talent that includes dance, song, poetry, culture and music. The event is all-campus inclusive and welcomes the creative influence of all ethnic backgrounds and cultures.
