The spring 2025 English Reading Series will feature fiction writer Brenda Peynado with creative writing students Sophia Braun, Orionna Howard, and Brooke Jett. The reading will take place Monday, February 24th from 7-8pm in the Wilson Center Elzay Gallery of Art.

Brenda Peynado is a Dominican American writer of short stories and novels. Her latest book, Time’s Agent, was one of Amazon Editors’ and Book Riot’s best books of August 2024, and her genre-bending short story collection, The Rock Eaters, was named one of NPR, the New York Public Library, and Electric Literature's best books of 2021. Her fiction has appeared in The Georgia Review, Threepenny Review, Pleiades, Prairie Schooner, and elsewhere, and her stories have won the Nelson Algren Award from the Chicago Tribune, an O. Henry Prize, and a Pushcart Prize. She teaches at the University of South Florida.

The reading, free and open to the public, will be followed by a Q & A session and book signing. This event is supported with a generous gift from Phil Oleson, BSPh '66, and Mary (Monstwil) Oleson, BSPh '70.
