Frequently Asked Questions

  • At ONU, we make sure you have plenty of variety! Our primary gathering place is the McIntosh Dining Hall, located inside the McIntosh Center. It features an all-you-care-to-eat environment with distinct stations like 360 Grill (Mongolian-style stir-fry), Fired Up (fresh pizzas and baked pastas), Stacks (made-to-order deli sandwiches), and Tossed (custom salads). For a change of pace, students can also grab food at our other on-campus retail locations, including WOW Café American Grill & Wingery, the Northern Lights Café, and our full-service Starbucks right here in Ada.

    • Actionable Step: Download the Everyday App on your phone to see daily rotating menus, nutritional facts, and what is open on campus in real-time.
  • To help first-year students successfully transition to college life without worrying about cooking or grocery shopping, ONU requires all incoming freshmen to carry a full residential meal plan. The standard option is the 19-Meal Plan, which gives your student 19 meal swipes per week plus $250 in Dining Dollars per semester. This ensures they have consistent access to healthy, hearty food as they navigate their first year away from home.

    • Actionable Step: When completing your freshman housing contract through Self-Service Banner, your meal plan will automatically be bundled with your residential agreement.
  • We take student health and safety very seriously. Our dining partner, Sodexo, features a dedicated station in the McIntosh Dining Hall called Simple Servings. This station provides delicious, safe meal options completely free from seven of the top eight most common allergens, as well as gluten. The daily menus also clearly label choices that are vegetarian, vegan, or part of our healthy Mindful selection.

    • Actionable Step: If your student has a specific medical dietary need, contact the Office of Residence Life or reach out directly to the Dining Services team at dining-services@onu.edu before arriving in the fall to create a customized dining plan.
  • Great question! Dining Dollars are automatically included with your student's meal plan and are meant strictly for on-campus food locations like the dining hall, Starbucks or WOW Café; they expire at the end of each semester. Polar Points are a separate funds account that families can load onto a student ID card through the Controller's Office ($1 equals 1 Polar Point). Polar Points never expire and are accepted at campus dining locations, the ONU Gear Shop, the Freed Center, and even the ONU HealthWise Pharmacy.

    • Actionable Step: Sit down with your student before the semester starts and decide if you'd like to add a baseline balance of Polar Points to their account for non-dining campus essentials.
  • Absolutely. We know that engineering labs, nursing clinicals, pharmacy schedules, etc. can get incredibly busy. ONU is proud to feature a robust reusable takeout container program. Students can use a swipe to grab a fresh, hot meal to go from the McIntosh Dining Hall, keeping them fueled up for their busiest days while reducing our campus environmental footprint.

    • Actionable Step: Ask for a reusable container card at the McIntosh Dining Hall register during orientation week to activate your takeout privileges.
  • Not at all! The dining team works hard to keep campus life fun, interactive, and community-focused. Throughout the year, McIntosh Dining Hall hosts signature themed events like Steak Night, Luau Night, holiday-themed feasts, and pop-up restaurants.

    • Actionable Step: Follow the official ONU Dining social media pages or check the McIntosh Center flyers during your campus visit to see what fun themes are coming up next.
